I love the puzzle as I live in Shingletown. It was very difficult! But the letters that say "Gateway To Lassen" are CUT OFF it only shows part of the quotes. 🤦♀️ So disappointing! ☹ *See attached image.

Before America entered the war, a number of Americans found their way overseas by a variety of means - legal and illegal - and into the cockpits of Royal Air Force fighters. A few of the earliest even fought under the English flag in the Battle of Britain during that long summer of 1940. In most cases they were in direct violation of US neutrality laws, just slipping past the FBI and concerned parents in their quest for adventure. Welcomed with open arms by the Royal Air Force, their numbers eventually grew to form one, two, and then finally three operational fighter squadrons: 71, 121, and 133.
Collectively known as The Eagle Squadrons, their proven success and valuable experience won the day and in late September 1942 they were formally transferred to US control, becoming the 4th Fighter Group. Their amazing run of success for the rest of the war was continued in Korea, and their proud heritage exists today as the 4th Fighter Wing flying the awesome F-15E Strike Eagle.

Wade Meyers spent his early years at Fort Bragg, North Carolina before his family moved to Bossier City, La. when he was ten years old. Fulfilling a dream, Wade soloed a Cessna 150 at age 17 and went on to earn his Commercial and Flight Instructor pilot certificates. After high school, he earned a B.A. in History from Louisiana State University in Shreveport while serving in the US Air Force Reserve at Barksdale Air Force Base. With marriage came a move to the beautiful Birmingham, Alabama area. Diving in head first, Wade quit his job at an aviation museum in 2003 and began to work full-time as an aviation artist.
