Rule Number 19

I hope I'm not breaking rules by saying so. But I really like rule 19.

Brilliant! As they are known* to say.

*Sorry, I have no documentation for this claim.

Oh and, THANK YOU for actually reading the rules. Now I know one has ...

I would only add one thing.
Yes, provide the link.
But in your forum post also quote the relevant part of the item being linked to.
This for the reason some people can't or won't click the link to read for themselves.

Uther,

Looks like you ALREADY BROKE #19......you didn't post the link or SOURCE!!!

I like rule 19 just fine. But that is certainly not going to be the end of it.

We have already seen this... who is going to certify the veracity of links that get posted as verification of the "facts" in the link are actually accurate?

What constitutes a legitimate source and how is that vetted?

The best advice I was ever given was to read everything and everyone but don't believe anyone or anything until you have verified it for yourself. This advice dates back long before the Internet and even personal computers.

Lol, Rich.

19 is a good edition!

This should be a rule in every forum.

Floyd, posting a link at least backs up a statement. It's up to the individual clicking on the link to vet what they are reading. No different than any other personal research.

Thank you, Chuck. Exactly.

I agree Chuck... no problem with that...I thought I indicated that. 😁

After I re-read it, I guess you did. Might have been the way you worded it. :-)

Sometimes it feels like rules of engagement, not rules of discussion

I am worried too many links are just going to be conspiracy theories. Or to quotes based on budding conspiracy theories stated as only "opinions". I will pass on all of this and stick to art more so in this forum. I need my time elsewhere online for investment purposes.

Just my worries. I wish I was not a worrier. But I am.

One of my home made rules, Rule 35c no one shall worry? LOL

PS the majority group (women) and many minorities are on edge over the conspiracies. There can be dark under currents in conspiracies. Need to stop my worrying.

I like rule 36 more: "If you paint something original, there will be houndreds of copies of it on internet" ...

In principle a great rule.

However a problem that I have run into is that not all sources are digital.

On a discussion say pertaining to Newton; some of my sources are books; which I can not upload.

Are the only sources allowed those that are on the internet?

I do wonder if some people don’t read the rules because they are looking at discussions on their phone.

The welcome statement and link to the rules only appear at the top of the discussions when you turn the phone sideways!

Perhaps there should be 2 links visible at the top:
Search / Discussion Rules!

Also I do check on the rules regularly; however, probably only once a week. So it is possible to miss an update. A way of getting around this might be is to have a the following statement

''Please read the discussion rules (updated ../../.. ) before posting.''

rather than ''Please read the discussion rules before posting.''
