Vangelis, The Oscar-winning Composer And Musician Has Passed Away

In the turbulent times we live in, it is almost unnoticed that Evángelos Odysséas Papathanassíou (Vangelis) has passed away on the 17th of May 2022. He died at age 79, at a hospital in Paris, due to heart failure but his legacy will live forever. Despite being a self-taught musician, Vangelis studied classical music, painting and film directing at the Fine Arts Academy in Athens. In one form or another probably we all have encountered the music composed by him. Having had a career in music spanning over 50 years and having composed and performed more than 50 albums, Vangelis is considered to be one of the most important figures in the history of electronic music, and modern film music.

His death was reported in the UK on BBC news, as he is probably best known in this country as composer for the award winning soundtrack from the great film Chariots of Fire. I was a fan of his music from my youth (many years ago!) as like other great musicians from that period he pushed the boundaries of music forward. Great musician, RIP.

The "Blade Runner" soundtrack has been a part of my life since the movie was released. It's iconic.
