Thank you for the contest votes of my "Red Christmas Cactus Bloom" by Patti Deters. This red and pink bloom is a close-up of a what has grown to be a huge plant that is about 3 feet across! It's beautiful when it flowers, as you can see! Also known as zygocactus or Easter cactus. Please enjoy more of my (flower, nature, more) images at patti-deters.pixels.com.

"Winter at the Lake" by Patti Deters. We had a heavy snow overnight which covered trees and fence posts with several inches of beautiful white snow. This pristine scene is at Simley Lake Pond in Inver Grove Heights, Minnesota. The weeping willow tree adds a bit of golden color to an otherwise mostly white terrain at this local park. If you like Mother Nature photography, please see more landscapes and other outdoor images at patti-deters.pixels.com.

Cat Nap
This cat watercolor painting captures an adorable scene of a brown, gray & white tabby sleeping next to a pillow with "I love to nap" on it. What could be more inviting than a wicker chair with a soft cushion, a fluffy pillow & warm sunshine?
This cute kitty has its front paws tucked up, closed its eyes & fell fast asleep. The tail & hind leg dangle in total relaxation.
So adorable! Sweet dreams little kitten!

“BRUSH CREEK FALLS II”
The beautiful Brush Creek Falls are located in Mercer County, West Virginia. Some 30 feet in height, the waterfall is the largest in Southern West Virginia. Brush Creek itself is a tributary of the Bluestone River. The silky water of Brush Creek Falls descends into a peaceful pool of blue with a beautiful reflection, and is a must-see for tourists or anyone visiting West Virginia. I took this long-exposure photograph to capture the beauty of these falls.

I am honored that this photograph of Manley Beacon at Death Valley National Park won 1st Place in the "Deserts" contest, January 2023.
https://fineartamerica.com/contests/desert-.html?tab=leaderboard
MANLEY BEACON PORTRAIT - Manley Beacon is the famous pointed landmark near Zabriskie Point as Death Valley National Park in California. From this popular vantage point, Manley Beacon is normally photographed in the horizontal, landscape format. In morning light I found this portrait of the eroded badlands of the Furnace Creek Formation in the foreground to make a compelling, near abstract composition of the distinctive geologic feature.
Both Manley Beacon and the surrounding badlands are tilted beds of sedimentary sandstone and marls laid down in the Pliocene Epoch, approximately 5 million years ago. This makes the Furnace Creek Formation a rather Johnny-Come-Lately to this fabulous geologic landscape which has at its basement rocks dating back 1.8 billion years.

Third Place honors in the "Spectacular Sunrises and Sunsets" contest, sponsored by the From Rise to Set art group, January 2023.
VERNAL EQUINOX SUNSET MURAL - The setting sun lit up the underside of a high cloud layer in a spectacular display of color on this evening of the Spring Equinox west of Tucson, Arizona in Tucson Mountain Park and Saguaro National Park. Silhouetted against this glorious sky are giant Saguaro cactus, the iconic symbol of the Sonoran Desert in the American Southwest.
This landscape mural is part of my "West By Southwest - An American Mural Project" collection. Like all of the others in the collection it is formatted in the 3:5 ratio and are only available in the 20" x 12", 24" x 14.375", 30" x 18", 40" x 24", 48" x 28.75", and 60" x 36" sizes, also 72" X 43.25" as a massive wall mural with astonishing clarity. Please see the collection for further information.

I am honored that this photograph of the incomparable rock formations of Bryce Canyon National Park won 1st Place in the "From Above Photography" contest, sponsored by the Dramatic Landscape Seascape and Cityscape Photographs art group, January 2023.
The first light of day reflects off of the sandstone canyon walls at Bryce Canyon National Park, and then back onto the erosional features deep within the canyon. This image was captured from Inspiration Point looking straight into the direction of the newly risen sun.
Dawn was still to come when I awoke that late summer day in 2012. The inner voice I sometimes hear told me that I really should get up because something special was coming, so I fumbled around in the cold and dark of the Bryce Canyon campground, made my breakfast and headed out, wondering where, what, and why.
Where, I did not know. What, I figured must be the sunrise for there is no other reason to be up and about in the pre-dawn gloom. And why? Because sometimes I just know something grand is coming, and I just have to hope I recognize it when I see it.
The air was quite cool at the 8,100 foot crest of Inspiration Point, and the brisk breeze was unimpeded at that elevation. It wasn’t long before I was shivering in the cold and wishing the sun to come up just as soon as it could. Eventually, the eastern horizon brightened and finally the sun crested the horizon. The moment was certainly not one of Nature’s more colorful or dramatic sunrises, and it left me questioning why I was really there. And the answer, like always, was to believe. And wait.
I had begun taking photographs of the hoodoos in the amphitheater to the north of me when I first saw it. Below and to the east in the direction of the sun, a section of the rocks suddenly appeared to begin to glow as if translucent in the morning light. I quickly moved to compose this landscape image, followed by a portrait capture.
As suddenly as it first appeared, the show was over. And I knew exactly why I was there.

2nd Place in the "Film Photography" contest, January 2023.
"Evening Storm" was the result of a (ongoing) quest, to catch a bolt of lightning with a sunset as background. The storm built up a few miles west of Tucson, and I made this photograph from Tucson Mountain Park and Saguaro National Park west of Tucson, Arizona overlooking the Altar Valley, plus the Roskgrug and Santa Rosa Mountains. Kitt Peak and the Quinlan Mountains are in the distance to the southwest. This is a film photograph made using Kodak Gold 100 ISO reversal film.

https://fineartamerica.com/featured/take-to-the-skies-like-the-butterflies-lucia-waterson.html
Take to the skies like the butterflies
Take to the skies like the butterflies is a beautiful painting of a group of colorful butterflies flying up to the sky.
Butterflies are so gorgeous to look at, they make you think of summer, of freedom, of daring to follow your dreams.
Their pretty colours, that frighten their predators, are so very fascinating, many of them are created by light refracting on the thousands of scales that cover their wings!
If a butterfly lands on you, it is probably hungry, because they taste with their feet! And their taste receptors help them finding the right plant.
Even with watercolours, I wanted to keep the colors vivid and vibrant.
A gorgeous gift to yourself if you love nature or a gift to someone who needs encouragement to try and fly, to follow their dreams with enthusiasm.
