What Else Is There?

Other than vocations and hobbies that you are active in what area or areas do you wish you could do or become more involved in?

Guess I shall start, music, I suck at it but have great respect for musicians.

I wish I knew how deal with people better and mediate conflict.

Painting. I always envy those that can create a landscape out of thin air. I have to leave the house to find mine with a camera.

I'll also add baking to the list. Decent cook, but awful at baking.

I always wanted to play the kettle drums

I did once, in college, and it was a DISASTER

It was cut short when I started traveling for work (pre-covid) but i was just getting my feet wet with volunteering at the men's homeless shelter and food bank. I was really enjoying it and wanted to learn more about it and the opportunities.

Everyone in my family can draw and paint - except me :-) I took up photography very young as a compensation but I dearly wish I could paint also. (and play the piano )

In my dreams I would like to have the ability to play classical guitar (as good as John Williams, Julian Bream or Christopher Parkening), and the keyboard / composition / improvisation skills of Chick Corea. Unfortunately, my dreams and reality are not a good match, as I have no skills for any of the above.

I wish I would have learned a second or third language.

Me too, music.

I dabbled with several instruments as a kid - piano, guitar, clarinet (in junior high band) and choir. I dropped all of them.

I regret that now.

Lisa Kaiser

Oh, I have always wanted to learn basket weaving.

Many of the above... But, then, there's something to be said for laziness...

Used to play music with friends when I was a youngster. But we are all moved away or graduated to another place.

So, now my grandson and I want to collaborate on sentimental efforts. He's 17 but loves music from old souls!

I'm open to almost everything, but unfortunately time has been my physical enemy which would limit most physical things for me. One lifetime is not enough! Still, I'm very pleased with my abilities up 'til now.

Can I post this here? (as close as I'll get to making music)

And another:

Maybe not something else but in addition to? Music, video, motion etc, albeit somewhat crude.....as I'm experimenting with Reels as an advertising tool?

Wish I could post them in my gallery.

Cosmology. I want to write books where I explain equations that explain how fast the universe is expanding and how much further we are from Alpha Centauri than we were in 1900. I want to be able to explain to someone else how empty space can expand.

Figure Skating. I was raised in the northeast and spent many hours skating on lakes, ponds, through the woods,at the rinks and anyplace that had ice. I wish I had pursued figure skating. It would have been very challenging.

I'll go for big wave surfing. I want to ride 50 foot tubes at Jaws in Hawaii and have people pay me for the video version of it. Unfortunately, age and common sense tell me that this won't happen.

Always enjoy painting , outside of that , love to cook , can’t bake , but strive to cook a good meal ,eat at your own risk , haha . Love astronomy, built a deep space telescope years back , the universe is a beautiful gift. My wife and two daughters can dance up a storm at weddings etc.; never been a good dancer wish I could have the moves , oh well , I still have fun however. Music I always enjoy , many different genres, would love to play guitar , but again it’s not my gift , my wife does and I really enjoy watching and listening to her play.

I'd personally would love to own a high end camera and learn fine photography -- top to bottom. It may take some years, but there it is. I'd also like to learn the art of picture framing, if i'm going to "attempt" to create art -- seems like a good skill to acquire

I wish I could buy the world a coke and sing in perfect harmony.

Edward Fielding

BTW Tim - fine art photography does not require a high-end camera. Polaroids and Holga plastic cameras have been used to create works that are in museum collections.

Lisa Kaiser

Be nice, Edward. LOL

I would like to retire from my work, but my work needs me so I'm learning to deal with conflict in a positive way and churning all of it into joy WHEN I really would love to tell people where to go.

I'd like to forge swords in charcoal fires and hammer them into shape. I have the charcoal but not the biceps.

Mine are the same as Lisa and Timothy. Plus i want to finish learning the piano

I don't ever want to be a wedding planner. It's stressful, hard work, and some relatives are constant thorns

I have been asking myself this question. What's next? I feel blessed that I have a choice, but all I have come up with is - be careful what you wish for!

COOKING

Since, I live alone, I have to be responsible on what goes into my mouth.

So I spend much of my braintime , planning the next meal.

I'm now just back, facing the bitter cold and wind, to ship out a piece to Switzerland.

While there I debated with myself, whether to go to Stop & Shop, to buy some fresh food .

I decided not too, and rely on my creative juices to come up with something interesting, with the food hanging out in the back of the fridge.

Who knows what I'll come up with

Back in the day I almost became a registered and certified caregiver for people with down syndrome. At that point, I already had 6 years extensive experience as a volunteer and I wanted to become registered to do it full time. Life choose a different path.

I went out tonight. I say it like that because I never go out and I definitely never go out at night. Why go out tonight you are asking? Because I went to an astronomy club. First time ever.

I learned about geology..... I realised I actually was interested in the geology

I am going back

what area or areas do you wish you could do or become more involved in? Geology of the planets

Want more time, then I'd take up the Violin. I have one, started lessons and then didn't have any time to practice. Other thing I'd like to do is make miniatures. There are some great artists out there making some cool stuff!

Buy a piano or a keyboard and play music. I took 8 years of classical piano lessons when very young. I would also like to help take care of the environment more, like Operation Clean Stream etc.... I just don't have any time. More time to paint or do art.

Flying, as in getting my pilot's license. Instead of just having bad dreams about it.

There is SO much more! Aways SO much more to try, to learn. I am still fascinated with the study of Archaeology, have been since childhood. After spending 32 years in nursing, I always had an interest in alternative healing...still do, especially the holistic side, so I'm always reading about it. My Dad became a private pilot in middle age, and I always wanted to learn more and join him way up and away. Did go with him in the Cessna's and loved it! Acting. Did some acting in college and loved it.

I have always been creative my entire life. May want to try painting with a real life paint brush!!!! LOL! But I am not feeling that it will love me back.

I was brought up in my early years with the "Big Band Sound" permeating the house.

It was the music of my 2 older siblings....And by necessity, became mine

I was taught to Swing Dance, by my sister when I was 7...... I had no choice in the matter.

And throughout the many following decades, I had the pleasure far too few times, to find a partner that had the moves and more importantly the beat.

Oh! how I would have loved to have found someone with that desire to take the time to work out a routine, going seamlessly from one move to the next.

Perhaps, at 87 there is still a chance.

And maybe we can go from Swing, to Jive, then to Jitterbug.

( I know there are Dance Clubs...But I'm talking REAL SWING, where it's not the "Steps" it's the "MOVES" )

Edit:

And then there is still the TANGO
