Great work, Wade. I followed progress on this in FB and Instagram, and the result is fantastic. I also appreciate your detailed description. It is so much better than I'd probably do (I'd probably just say: "a couple of Wildcats, in pencil")

I probably will NOT purchase from this site again. The quality of the puzzle was just okay, for example there were many pieces where the backing was delaminating. (See 2 photos) Additionally, the size was advertised as 20" x 28". The finished puzzle size was actually 19-5/8" x 26-1/8". I feel that skimping on the size resulted in the face of the bottom kitty being half obscured when framed. This is the most I've ever paid for a puzzle that I expected to be perfect. (I could only select 1 photo. Please email me if you want photos of puzzle pieces delaminating.)

I haven't done the puzzle yet but I was very pleased with the speed it was sent. The puzzle itself is brilliant I only wish I were able to find Linda Carruth's puzzles in England

I love the puzzle as I live in Shingletown. It was very difficult! But the letters that say "Gateway To Lassen" are CUT OFF it only shows part of the quotes. 🤦‍♀️ So disappointing! ☹ *See attached image.

Artist's Description

Two Grumman F4F-3 Wildcats of VF-2 “Chiefs” cruise above CV-2 Lexington - “The Gray Lady” - in late April 1942 just after the Chiefs’ assignment to the aircraft carrier, replacing VF-3, nicknamed, “Felix the Cat.” The pivotal Battle of Coral Sea, which was to occur on 7-8 May 1942, loomed ominous.

With Fighting 2’s assignment to CV-2’s air group on 15 April, it immediately gained nineteen of VF-3’s Wildcats and a dozen of it’s naval aviators. One of them, Fighting 3’s Flight & Maintenance Officer, Lieutenant Noel A. M. Gayler, a 1935 Naval Academy graduate from Birmingham, Alabama, and already an experienced hand with three aerial victories, transferred to VF-2 as its XO (Executive Officer).

While his plane was one of those transferred, Gayler was assigned or “took on” another Wildcat as his personal aircraft with VF-2. His former mount, still bearing the name G A Y L E R below the cockpit, complete with his tally of aerial victory fla...
