How Do You Make Your Fresh Flowers Last Longer?

Hello, we are approaching the spring floral season and I was wondering if you have any tips for making your beautiful flowers last longer.

I usually add sugar or an aspirin because I read they help.
But I saw in a shop some amazing stabilized red roses and they can apparently last for years, but they look fresh! Is it something popular where you live?
I researched and if you want to try at home you need to put them first in water with salt and then in water with glycerin. Did you ever try it?
Or do you have any other tips to share please?

Thanks a lot in advance!

I put the vase outside at night.

You can also recut the tip of the stems that is in the water.

Same as Delphimages - recut the stems and change the water.

Paint them! LOL, seriously, though, I use those flower food packets that you can purchase or that come with the flowers if you buy them. I change the water frequently, cutting the bottoms, but I've noticed some flowers won't stay fresh if they weren't fresh to begin with.

It's not always easy to purchase good-quality fresh flowers, so that's why it's best to grow them in a garden and cut them. However, there's a problem with that, depending on where you're located and the weather.

Hydrangeas are always challenging to keep fresh. There are all kinds of tricks and tips about sticking the heads in cold water, and there are a bunch of them online.

I have never heard of any flowers that would last four years. interesting.

For woody stems you can lightly hammer the stem to break open the bark. Lets more water resulting in longer blooms. But not 4 years.

Thanks a lot everyone! It was the first time I saw stabilised flowers, they didn't look any different than just cut fresh flowers, honestly. But I read the word stabilised which I never heard of and so I asked.
They will stay fresh for few years, not just four, even 10 years!

I remember many years ago buying a beautiful display of daffodils for my mother for Mother's Day, she loved them. However, a couple of weeks later when visiting I commented on how well they were lasting. She said talk a closer look, with a smile, to my amazement they were artificial flowers. It must be a man thing when buying flowers.
After that she put them away in a plastic bag and brought them out the following Spring and always reminded me of my mistake.

I'm in agreement with everyone here about recutting stems & keeping the container water refreshed. Clean the vase interior before refilling.

Make sure there are no leaves below the water line. Their decay can foul the water quickly.

Cleaning stinky stale water flower buckets is one of the first, oh so romantic tasks assigned to florist assistants.   ;)

Cut the stems at an angle, put them in fresh water and add a teaspoon of sugar or an aspirin tablet.

Oh I see you already do that.

I did it with wildflowers that I used to take to the nursing home for the ladies there and they would last almost two weeks.

I was about to say add sugar to the water.

I was also about to say use borax, but just looked it up. And it does the total opposite.

We use a few drops of rooting hormone in the water.
