Concern Over Watermarks

Does the FAA watermark appear on the actual product, or just here on the image page? For instance, if someone buys a t-shirt of one of my paintings, does the watermark get added to the t-shirt design as well? If so, perhaps I'll uncheck the watermark. Thoughts?

Just on the website, not in any prints or merchandise.

You don't have to use the watermark, you can turn it off.

In default settings at the bottom of the page you can uncheck the box for watermarks.

This may be the best endorsement ever for not using those watermarks!!

That watermark can be a problem as buyers don’t understand whether it will show on the print so I never use them.

If you change default settings that will only apply to all new uploads.

To remove watermarks from the images you have already uploaded you will need to press edit under each image, delete and re-upload each image and scroll down the edit screen to make sure the watermark button is not enabled.

As others have said having the watermark on the image is entirely your choice, it can be changed under the Settings tab. It will not appear on any products purchased only on the website to discourage people downloading your image. However, it may have a negative effect on possible purchasers who may be confused by it being on the image.

May i say, "I told you" here? So many people ask this, understandably. We have so many who do not understand watermarks and how they work.

Alexander, as others have said, the watermark is purely to give the appearance of helping protect the work. I say appearance, as watermarks are quite easy to remove nowadays.

But it gives some people peace of mind. However, it also can stop sales. I use it. Many people do not.

To remove it, you have to reload images
To not have it on future uploads, use the default settings to turn it off (or on)

I ever thought nobody will think so absurd, but I was wrong.
Now I also know why there are warnings like 'replace packaging before roasting' or 'do not pull this plastic bag over Your head'.

Touché.

Do not be embarrassed by asking. A lot of people do not know - and a potential customer is more likely to leave than to ask. Watermarks cause a loss of sales.

Now someone usually comes along and says, "I sell just fine with watermarks." That may be true - but he must be happy in selling less than he otherwise would. Go figure...

No its not. But if you think so, then so do buyers which is why it shouldn't be there. And if you have to add a blurb stating that, it just looks messy. The mark doesn't prevent theft, doesn't encourage people a way to find the owner and doesn't promote sales. So I leave it off.

And this is another reason why I don't watermark my images. The first one being it totally ruins the composition, so you lose them before they have a chance to look at any disclaimers.

Many thanks to each of you for clarifying.
